Gutter cleaning in Branksome means scooping every run out by hand, running water through each outlet and downpipe, and telling you what we found while it was running. If a gutter needs replacing instead of clearing, we say so and price that separately.
A blocked gutter in Branksome usually shows from the pavement. Water sheeting over the front of a gutter in a downpour, usually at a corner or above the front door. A green stain spreading down the brickwork or render under one joint. Or grass and moss visibly growing out of the gutter on a house that has not had it cleared in years.
If rain is coming through a ceiling or running down an inside wall right now, ring 07435 839745 instead of using the form. A blocked outlet can put water into a house as quickly as a slipped tile. Otherwise we come out, look at the roofline and give you a written itemised quote with every run on it.
The work
Clearing the eaves, valleys and downpipes

Eaves gutters. On most houses in Branksome the gutter hangs on the fascia at the eaves. Leaves, moss washed off the tiles, grit off concrete tiles and the black silt it all turns into are lifted out by hand from a ladder, or with a gutter vacuum on a reach pole where a conservatory, a bay or a flower bed gets in the way. Every bag of debris leaves with us.
Outlets and downpipes. A gutter can be empty and still overflow if the outlet is blocked. We flush each downpipe through with water, check it runs freely at the shoe and into the gully, and put a camera down any pipe that will not clear. A blockage low down in a pipe on a two storey Branksome semi can be a ball or a nest rather than leaves.
Valleys and hidden gutters. The bigger Edwardian houses in Branksome often have valley gutters between hips and bays, and some older properties have a box gutter behind a parapet. These cannot overflow over a front edge, so a blockage sends water under the tiles or into the wall. They need a safe platform or proper roof access, not a ladder, and we check the lining while it is clear.
Blocks of flats. The post-war blocks in Branksome have long runs, several downpipes and a car park underneath. We agree a day with the managing agent, keep bays clear under the work and give them a written note of the condition of each run.
Small repairs. A union that drips once the water runs, a bracket that has pulled out, or a length that has lost its fall and holds water. We photograph it and give you a price, and only fix it on the day if you say yes. If the fascia behind is soft or the gutter is past saving, that is fascia, soffit and guttering replacement in Branksome.
How often. Once a year, after the leaves have come down in late autumn, suits most houses. A house under big trees may need a spring clear as well. A house with no trees nearby may go longer, and we will tell you if it does not need doing yet.
How it runs
From your call to a written price
One person to ring from the first visit to the last. The quote is itemised, not a figure on the back of a card: access, the length of run, the number of outlets and downpipes, any repair, and where the debris goes on separate lines, so you can compare it properly against anyone else's.
Nothing is left open or unusable overnight. The site is swept at the end of each day rather than the end of the job, and what comes out leaves with us. If something turns up once we start that nobody could have seen, you get a photograph and a price before we carry on.
Clearing gutters is maintenance, so there is no planning application and nothing for building control. If you later replace old cast iron on a house in the Brunstead Road Conservation Area, that can be a different matter, and the council keeps the list is the place to check.
Cost
What decides the price of a gutter clean

No rate per square metre, because a metre of gutter behind a conifer and a metre on an open gable are not the same metre.
Getting to it. A bungalow with a low gutter we can reach from a pole, an Edwardian house with valleys between the hips, and a block of flats with long runs over a car park are three very different visits. A bungalow run comes off a ladder or a pole, a three storey gable wants a tower, and a valley gutter between two roofs wants a proper platform. The work at height rules are why the access is a priced line rather than something absorbed into a rate.
What is in it, and how far it has travelled. Leaf litter lifts out in minutes. Moss washed off the tiles sets into a wet mat that has to be dug out, and silt in a long run behind a hedge is heavier and slower than anything a photograph shows. The number of outlets matters more than the length, because that is where it packs.
Whether it is a clean or a repair. A joint that drips once it is running again, a downpipe blocked at the shoe, a length of plastic that has sagged between brackets: none of that is clearing, and it is the part that decides whether you are booking an hour or half a day.
Comparing quotes? Ask whether the downpipes are being run through or just the gutter cleared, whether the outlets and hoppers are checked, whether it is a clear or a clear and a check for leaks, and who takes the debris away.
If it is overflowing now
Water coming over the gutter in heavy rain
Ring rather than use the form. Water running down a wall in a downpour soaks the brickwork and finds its way to a ceiling faster than most people expect, so a blocked outlet in a wet week goes to the front of the queue.
We clear it, run water through to prove it, and tell you honestly if what you actually have is a broken joint rather than a blockage. If you rent, tell your landlord or letting agent the same day as well as calling us, so the repair is on record. Scheduled work runs Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. For anything urgent, ring rather than use the form, and if we cannot pick up we ring you back as soon as we can.
The one local thing
If you rent, the gutters are usually your landlord's job
A good share of homes in Branksome are flats, and not every home here, flat or house, is lived in by its owner. If you rent on a tenancy of under seven years, keeping the outside of the building in repair, gutters and drains included, is normally the landlord's responsibility under section 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985. In a block of flats the freeholder or the managing agent arranges it for the whole building.
That matters because an overflowing gutter is easy to ignore until the damp shows inside, and by then the question of who should have acted is harder to answer. So if you rent and the gutter is spilling over, report it to the landlord or agent in writing and keep a photograph. We are happy to quote the landlord or agent directly, and the written note we leave after a clear, run by run, gives them a record for the file. If you own and let a house in Branksome, a yearly clear booked in autumn is simpler than dealing with a damp complaint in February.

Questions
Questions about gutter cleaning in Branksome
How often should my gutters be cleared?
Once a year after the leaves fall suits most houses. Under big trees, a spring clear as well. We will tell you if yours does not need doing yet.
Do you check the downpipes too?
Yes. Every outlet and downpipe is flushed through with water, and any pipe that will not run gets a camera down it.
I rent my home. Who pays for gutter cleaning?
Usually the landlord, as part of keeping the outside of the building in repair. Report it in writing, and we can quote your landlord or agent directly.
Will you fix a leaking joint while you are there?
If you want us to. We photograph it, give you the price, and only do it once you have agreed.
