Accessibility Statement
We want anyone to be able to use this website and get a quote, whatever device they are on and however they browse. Here is where we have got to, and what still needs work.

Our commitment
This website belongs to Bournemouth Roofing & Building. We build it and we are responsible for how accessible it is.
Plenty of our customers are older, or have limited sight, hearing or dexterity, and often the reason they are on this page is a roof that needs sorting out urgently. Nobody should have to fight a website to get hold of a builder. So the aim is straightforward: every page readable, every link and button reachable with a keyboard, and the phone number never more than a moment away.
The standard we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2, level AA. That is the standard used across the UK public sector and it is the sensible benchmark for a small business site too.
We believe the site currently meets level AA, with the exceptions listed further down. We have tested it by keyboard and with browser zoom, and checked colour contrast on the text and interface elements. We have not yet paid for a formal third-party audit.
What we have done
- Semantic HTML. Real headings in order, real lists, real buttons and links, and page landmarks such as header, navigation, main and footer. Screen readers and reader modes can make sense of the structure without guessing.
- Keyboard navigation throughout. You can reach and operate every link, button, menu, form field and FAQ panel with the Tab, Enter, Space and arrow keys. Nothing on the site needs a mouse or a hover to work.
- Visible focus indicators. Whatever you have tabbed to is clearly outlined, so you never lose your place. We have not removed browser focus rings.
- Colour contrast. Body text, headings, buttons and form labels are set at contrast ratios that meet AA. We do not use colour on its own to convey meaning, form errors, for example, come with a written message, not just a red border.
-
Reduced motion support. The site respects the
prefers-reduced-motionsetting in your operating system. Turn it on and the scrolling animations, the area-name marquee and the hero movement all stop. - Alt text on meaningful images. Photographs that carry information have a written description. Purely decorative background images are hidden from screen readers so they do not clutter the page.
- A skip link. The first thing you reach with the Tab key is a "Skip to main content" link, so you do not have to tab through the whole menu on every page.
- Responsive text sizing. Text is set in relative units and reflows down to 320 pixels wide. You can zoom to 200% or increase your browser's default font size without content being cut off or overlapping.
- Forms that explain themselves. Every field has a visible label attached to it, required fields are marked, and validation messages are announced rather than only shown.
- More than one way to reach us. If a form is ever a barrier, the phone number and email address are on every page, in the header and the footer, and a call button appears near the top of every service and area page.
Known limitations
We would rather be honest about the gaps than claim the site is perfect.
- Some job photographs are low resolution. A few older photos from previous jobs were taken on site with whatever phone was to hand, and they do not look sharp on large or high-density screens. They are still described with alt text, so nothing is lost if you cannot see them clearly, but we are replacing them with better photographs as we complete new work.
- Third-party content added later may not be fully accessible. If we add something we do not build ourselves, a map, a review widget, a video, or a booking tool. We cannot guarantee it will meet WCAG 2.2 AA, because we do not control that code. If we do add anything like that, we will check it first, provide the same information in plain text alongside it, and update this statement.
- PDFs. Any quote or document we send you by email is produced by our accounting software and may not be tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will send the same information as plain text or read it to you over the phone.
- No formal audit yet. Our testing has been done in-house. It is thorough, but it is not the same as an independent audit, and we may have missed something.
Report a problem
If you find something on this site you cannot use, or you need information from a page in a different format, larger print, plain text, or read out to you. Tell us and we will sort it out.
- Phone: 07435 839745, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.
